Final notes

First of all, let us thank all the athletes, coaches, team representatives that have come and helped this sporty event happen! It was a huge pleasure to be with you throughout the event week!

Approaching the event.

The preparation for WMSOC/ESOC/WJSOC/EYSOC is progressing as planned. As of 21 January 2013, we have received 239 entries from WMSOC competitors and entries from 20 federations for ESOC/WJSOC/EYSOC. The organizers appreciate your eagerness and are doing their best to make the competitors feel comfortable during the event. We have planned to accommodate the ESOC/WJSOC/EYSOC competitors in hotels “Madona”, “Smeceres krogs”,”Reķu kalns”, “Vestiena”, “Gaiziņstars”, “Apiņu kalte”, “Jānis”, “Naktsvijoles” . Competitors of the same team will live together in the same hotel. As far as possible, we are trying to accommodate all the WMSOC competitors in the Hotel “Ērgļi” ( If more rooms will be requested, you will be accommodated in the nearby hotel “Jumurdas muiža” (

Invitation to the IOF Ski Orienteering Event Advisers’ and Organisers’ Clinic in Madona, Latvia, 14-16 February 2013

Course objectives and requirements:
The main objective of this IOF Event Advisers’ Clinic is to prepare participants to be licensed Ski Orienteering Event Advisers.
The requirements for licensing are:
1. Be an active ski orienteer.
2. Have competed in countries other than your own.
3. Have controlled or played a major part in the organisation of National or International standard SkiO events in the last 3 years.
4. Be competent in the English language.
5. Have attended, and have been an active participant in, an IOF SkiO Event Advisers’ Clinic.
6. Be familiar with the IOF Rules and other relevant publications.
7. Be recognised as an expert in SkiO and endorsed as suitable by your Federation.
Course Content:
• Understanding of the task of an IOF Event Adviser
• Deeper understanding of the nature of ski orienteering and each format (long, middle, sprint, relay)
• Understanding of the IOF rules and requirements for international competition
The course will include examples of best practise from major events and group exercises. The clinic will also include field work, critical assessment of ESOC and JWSOC 2011-12 competitions, participation to team leaders meeting and observation of jury work. There is also a possibility to take part in the Masters Championships and Open competitions.
